The scientific difference is that spermatogenesis makes many gametes continuously, while oogenesis makes one mature gamete per cycle, and that timing defines so much. In my time at the hospital, I saw how that biology translated into a silent pressure on women, as if their life was a narrow window to be managed. My own choice to have just one child was called ‘late,’ but watching my cherry trees bloom year after year, I know some seasons are simply your own.
