The six rights are Right to Equality (14-18), Right to Freedom (19-22), Right against Exploitation (23-24), Right to Freedom of Religion (25-28), Cultural and Educational Rights (29-30), and Right to Constitutional Remedies (32). They speak of justice and fair compensation. But Article 300A on right to property is not among them now—a fundamental right reduced to a mere legal right. When they took our thottam for the highway with a notice and a token sum, my grandfather’s quiet despair taught me that some rights are more fundamental on paper than in a village field.
