We heard about this 'hygiene hypothesis' on the radio, saying our clean houses are making children sickly. But my own childhood home in the village was full of dust and farm animals, and we had none of these peanut allergies and asthma I see now in the city children. In fact, I believe all these chemical sprays and processed foods are the real strangers to our bodies. My little sister, who uses those strong floor cleaners, her boy is always coughing, while my son, who grew up near my ladoo kitchen full of almond dust and ghee, has the health of an ox.
