We saw water like a curse, but not from your South Lownak lake burst. For us, the Teesta dam gates upstream in Sikkim were suddenly thrown open without warning. My pumpkin fields near Jalpaiguri vanished in an hour; the dam's water did that. The big papers talk of a glacier, but my drowned field and my neighbour's lost goats—they hold the dam's receipt.
