Actually, in CBSE physics, they say it's for independent operation and equal voltage. But in our old house, everything *was* in series once when a wire got tangled—one bulb gone and the fan, mixer, all stopped! What to do? So the parallel lesson I remember while fixing our fuse, one appliance at a time, with my father grumbling about the 'current' bill instead of the electric current.
