Actually, yaar, the doctoral committee is usually your guide, two internal professors, and one external expert—they check your six-monthly report for progress and methodology. They expect decent work and publications, see? Only, in our private deemed university, we are a bit more lenient, because we don’t want good students to leave. I’ve seen many get an extra chance even with a weak report, as long as they show some effort—unlike the strict IITs my cousin's son faced.
