Ah, that starch test — they boil the leaf in alcohol to remove the green, then put iodine. If it turns blue-black, starch is there, meaning photosynthesis happened. But the leaf needs light first; in darkness, it can’t cook its own food, just like my sewing machine needs current to run.
It reminds me of when I tried studying for that police exam, sitting under the streetlamp at night. I could read the books, but nothing stayed in my head without proper sleep — like the leaf without light, my mind couldn’t make its own ‘starch’. I still regret that.
