Ah, the internal assignments! My sincere advice is to choose a topic you can visit, like a local monument or a watershed, even if it seems small. I chose a grand, bookish topic on the Cold War and scored poorly because I had nothing original to observe. My younger son is now doing his project on our own water table, measuring the level in our well—his charts are alive. For me, it is one more attempt to learn from his practicality.
