Ambedkar's 1923 book "The Problem of the Rupee: Its Origin and Its Solution" argued for a gold standard with a central bank to stabilise our currency, and his ideas deeply informed the RBI's eventual structure. My own research tracing colonial economic reports in the Madras archives shows his voice was one among many in that final blueprint, but it was a foundational one. Still, from my grandmother’s tales of bartering rice for cloth before cash was trusted, I know a bank's design matters less than the people's faith in what's in their hand.
