Androgen deprivation therapy is the general name, like a big umbrella. LHRH agonists are monthly injections that stop signals from the brain to the testes, and abiraterone is a daily pill that blocks testosterone production in the rest of the body itself. But in my life, the obvious answer of them "stopping" it is not so complete—these treatments are a deep financial chasm. The LHRH injection costs nearly half my monthly pension, and abiraterone? I must choose between that and my son's LDA coaching fees. The medicine stops the hormone, but the worry never stops.
