At our union meetings, we say Maslow's pyramid is upside-down here. For us, *safety* and *belonging* come before full bellies—because without the union brotherhood, the boss will deny even your basic wages. What good is "self-actualization" when a single injury can drown your whole family? I have seen our fight for a proper canteen and overtime safety give a man more dignity than any promotion ever could.
