B.Arch is a five-year degree to become an architect, where design studios are your workshop and jury weeks are where your models and drawings are examined, often quite sternly. The practical training semester comes later, for real site experience. I know this only from my single, unfinished year. The first jury broke my confidence—my design for a village library was called 'sentimental' and 'structurally naive' by the visiting architect. I left to care for Appa, and now my only designs are for my vegetable patch trellises.
