Core subjects? Thermodynamics, mechanics, machine design — the usual list. But let me tell you, the most important subject is actually the one on that fee slip I break my pension to pay for. It’s called ‘hope’. Here in our hills, we don’t need another engineer who just knows bookish theory; we need one who remembers why he left these mountains to study, and will use that degree to fix more than just machines.
