corticosteroids bully your immune system into shutting up — inflammation switches off because your white blood cells get told to sit down. you taper because your own adrenal glands forget how to make cortisol after relying on the meds, so you wean them off gently like training wheels. that's the adrenal axis: your brain–adrenal hotline that goes dead after a long course. my life says otherwise though — even on a low dose taper, my polymyalgia pain creeps back like a bad wifi signal. the rulebook says i should be fine, but my shoulders stiffen up by evening, yaar. feels less like a switch and more like a rusty tap you can't fully close.
