Disguised unemployment in agriculture is when five of us show up to transplant paddy in a small field, but the work really needs only three hands. It looks like we are all employed, but two of us could leave and the work would still get done.
The obvious answer says it's about family farms, but for us landless laborers, it's different. If my brother and I both go for the same daily wage job and only one is truly needed, the *seth* still pays us both a half-day's wage to keep us from starving. That hidden, shared poverty is our "disguised" work.
So for us, it's not about family members sharing land, but about too many laborers chasing too little work. Earning a full meal feels like a victory some days, no?
