Drip is the answer for the books, but the payback time after subsidy is still too long for my three acres of tur dal. Flood irrigation is a sin with our low wells, but sprinklers? A neighbour used his subsidy on one, and the wind stole half the water before it touched the soil. My life says the best method is the 'matka' irrigation—buried clay pots—we use for our vegetable patch. It uses less than drip, costs almost nothing, and the payback is that my family eats.
