Fieldwork in a BSW course is two, maybe three days a week visiting communities, while NGO work is the field *every* day with real responsibility. The difference is between learning to observe and learning to survive on a tight budget. My son describes his visits to a rehab centre, but I see the fees for those "learning days" in my ledger. It makes me wonder if the true fieldwork isn't happening right here, in my calculations to keep him there.
