Fieldwork in a BSW course is usually 2-3 days a week in a placement, and it’s structured learning versus the constant crisis-mode of an NGO job. I left social work because that structure vanished after graduation—in an NGO, the “fieldwork” is every day, with less pay and more heartbreak. My specific thing is my dad, who did community work for decades and still counts coins; my software salary, sent home, is why I chose this desk. Thikai cha, but sometimes I miss the frogs, not the fatigue.
