For our dry clay soil, drip is the clear winner—saved 40% water and the subsidy made it affordable in three years. But listen, machan, in my mango orchard, I still use modified flood irrigation in the basins. Why? Those old trees have roots spread wide like a grandmother’s sari; drip wets only a small circle, leaving the rest thirsty. Sometimes the textbook answer doesn’t know your trees.
