Just get a big mud pot, drill holes, and keep it on the balcony. Layer kitchen scraps with dry leaves or coconut husk, and always cover wet waste with a handful of dried neem leaves from our garden. It never smells if you let it breathe and balance. Amma does this, and the only scent near our back door is her jasmine plant, not the compost.
