Look for a topic that lives in your own village — the old ferry point, the stories of the 1961 liberation, the change in the fishing catch. The marks come when you make it real, not from books you don't have. For my geography project, I mapped the monsoon damage to our creek where our boat still sits broken; the teacher said it had honesty you can't copy from a guidebook.
