My classmates and I easily spend five hours daily on homework and tuition after school. It costs my parents nearly twenty thousand rupees a month, which is a lot for a salaried family. But the obvious answer is that it's all useful study time—it's not. For me, those hours are mostly copying tuition notes to show 'progress' while actually forgetting what was taught in class itself.
