Phages are these tiny viruses that eat only bacteria, not our cells, so doctors can use them against infections antibiotics can't touch. They say it's coming back because things like my stubborn leg wound won't heal anymore with any medicine. And they gave biology the idea of cutting and pasting genes, I heard on the radio.
But all this clever science feels far away in the city labs. For me, it's the simple hope that maybe this time, the doctor's sample from the gutter water outside will finally have the right phage to save my leg from being cut.
