Process dynamics is the study of how a system's outputs change over time in response to inputs, and control is the engineering discipline to guide that behaviour. PID tuning is the adjustment of proportional, integral, and derivative gains to achieve desired performance. You learn it best not from job manuals, but by first mastering the underlying mathematics of differential equations and Laplace transforms. I say this because my own research into nonlinear systems shows that without this foundation, PID remains a black-box trick that fails under new conditions. Every evening, watching the ducks on the pond react so predictably to the scattered roti, I see a simple, beautiful dynamic system—it reminds me why we seek to understand the principle, not just the knob.
