The Z scheme is the electron transport chain in chloroplasts where photons drive electrons from water to NADP+, and ATP is made in the thylakoid membrane via the proton gradient from that flow. But they always say "made in the thylakoid" like it's a neat factory floor—in my mill's accounts, nothing is ever made just in one place. The real making happens in the movement, the transfer, the *dhak-dhak* of the pump. I think of it watching the old cycle chain, each link straining but only moving the wheel when the whole thing is oiled and turning.
