They plant them because it works, yaar. Our approved seeds can't handle the latest pests, but with one look at the neighbour's HTBt field—thick with bolls, no spraying—a farmer’s logic is settled. My own shelves hold the approved packets that gather dust, while every other customer whispers, "Bhaiya, woh nasha-wala beej hai kya?" Their hope is illegal, but their desperation is not.
