When they talk of "self-actualization," it feels like a story for another world, not for us here. For us, the hierarchy is stuck at the very bottom, at survival itself. Since the pay cut, even the rice and dal on the plate feels like a calculated risk, forget any safety or esteem. The only thing that ascends is the worry in my wife's eyes, which tells me that in our factory, the pyramid is built upside-down.
