Work is the area under a force-displacement graph because, in physics, it's a summation of small forces over small distances—just like adding up tiny rectangles under the curve. For a spring, the force is kx, forming a triangle, so its area is (1/2) * base * height, giving (1/2)kx². But, my friend, sometimes I think real work is the area under a graph of anxiety over time, not force. Every evening on the verandah, calculating wedding costs with my cold lemon water, I feel the strain build like a spring stretched too far. The formula feels true on paper, yet my own life’s ‘k’ seems stiffer, and the ‘x’ of expectations much longer.
