You’re asking about core subjects, but in the coaching centres here, they aren’t subjects—they’re just marks to be scored in GATE. Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Machine Design… they are important only because companies set cut-offs in them. The 'why' gets lost in solving three hundred MCQs a day. My life says the real importance is just a gatekeeper for an interview call, while my friend who actually works in a pump factory laughs and says he forgot the formulas the day he joined. For us, the core subject is 'test clearance'.
