For cotton, I plant red gram between the rows—it’s a good companion and gives an extra pulse harvest. For sugarcane, short-term crops like black gram or cowpea in the initial months work well, yaar. But honestly, in my small plot here, I found intercrops with sugarcane made it too crowded—the labour cost to manage it wasn't worth the yield for me.
