It is common because our soil and water here lack iodine, that much is true. But the big answer they give—that iodised salt fixed it—is only half true in our village! Many families, like mine, still buy the big, cheap sacks of non-iodised rock salt from the weekly market. The iodised salt is smaller, more expensive, and feels like a city thing. So, while the government says the problem is solved, I still see aunties with swollen necks fetching water from the same old springs.
