They say all pregnant women are eligible, especially from SC/ST families like mine. But the truth is in the travel—for my second delivery, the ambulance promised under JSSK did not come for the mountain road to the CHC, and my husband had to pay a van-driver three hundred rupees we had saved for winter boots. The forms are filled in the town, but the distance is measured in the mother's pain.
