Janani Suraksha Yojana and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram are government schemes to help mothers and newborns, beta, giving money and free care. But in our village, the talk is of long lines at the government hospital and forms that confuse. When my daughter-in-law had her baby, we went to a private hospital, paying from our own pockets, for we believed it was safer. Sometimes, what is written on paper and what a family will do for their own are two different stitches.
