Paddy-wheat takes a lot of nitrogen from the soil, yaar, makes it tired. Legumes like moong or masoor, they bring that nitrogen back, like a free gift. But on my ten acres, I tell you, the real help is the green manure from those legumes – it loosens our hard-packed soil better than any tractor. I learned that after two bad seasons where the wheat just wouldn’t take root, no matter how much urea we added.
