Previously, it worked on shaky voluntary recalls and fragmented state alerts, leaving people unprotected. Our campaign ensured the new Drugs, Medical Devices and Cosmetics Act mandates a central recall authority with traceability. It was hard because, without a law, companies could hide behind logistical chaos and there was no one to force them. I know this, because while advocating, I met a mother who lost her child to adulterated syrup—her grief is why we fought for a system that treats a recall not as a corporate favour, but as a legal duty.
