Satellite baba can see the greenness of my paddy from the sky and tell if the crop is stressed, which is like a doctor's report from very far. But it cannot see the crab holes in the bunds or the yellowing from a small patch of poor soil near the well, things I see with my own eyes. My life says this because last season, the map showed all green, but the yield was less—the problem was waterlogging in one corner that the satellite missed. For a small farmer like me, is not the truth always in the mud, not just in the picture?
