Selye’s general adaptation syndrome says the body goes alarm, resistance, exhaustion under stress—like studying for three months straight. But my life says resistance comes first, always, because when my father’s cough returned last monsoon, we were already in it, no time for alarm. Exhaustion is the quiet after the boat is carved, when you realise you forgot to eat. The alarm, that is for rich boys in textbooks.
