That black liquid is leachate, and the fire is from trapped methane gas, they say. But the obvious answer is that it is our own neglect catching up to us. From my flat near Ghazipur, I see the mountain of trash grow daily with plastics and sharat that will not return to the soil. The real fire is in our throats on summer afternoons, when the wind changes direction.
