The book says a population becomes ‘human capital’ when it is educated and healthy, like the two families where the educated ones earn more. Literacy figures matter because they count how many can read. But in my lane, the best mechanic, who fixes all the factory trucks, never went to school—he learned from his hands. They would call him just a number, but without him, the machines stop. So for us, the capital is also in the skill that the figures do not see.
