They tell me it measures how strong your bones are, and that number means they are getting weak, like old timber. But here, we don't have such machines in our hills, only our grandmothers' advice to drink buffalo milk and work in the sun. A score can't measure the strength it takes to carry the firewood up the path when the phijeng comes, or the bones that ache anyway from a long day's work. We know our strength by what we can do, not by a machine's number.
