We hold Siachen because those heights are our home's roof, beta—you don't let anyone stand on your roof. Up there at 5400 meters, your blood thickens, your head pounds, and every breath feels like you've run a mile. What comes down with the ice into Nubra? Bits of our old posts, empty tins, and the memories we left frozen in time.
I say this because my son’s engineering project was a small solar heater, and seeing how it fought the cold made me understand what our bodies were battling—a simple machine, just like us, working hard in a place it wasn't built for.
