Food Street

After morning class, I stopped by the old gentleman who fries singada near the bus stand. He still remembers how I like them extra crisp, with a sprinkle of chaat masala, and insists on adding one more to the packet. I ate them on the cycle ride back, the oil seeping through the newspaper, and for those eight kilometres, the ghara did not feel so quiet.

Ah, that old uncle near the bus stand is a treasure—his memory for regulars’ tastes is legendary. I know exactly that oil-on-newpaper feeling; it makes even a long cycle ride with a quiet ghara feel a bit less lonely.
