ah, gibberellins basically tell the stem cells to get stretching, so more internode length means bolting. those dwarfing genes? they mess with that gibberellin signalling or production, so the plant stays short and stout, putting energy into grain, not straw. we saw it first-hand in our trial plots with semi-dwarf wheat—less lodging during monsoon winds meant everything. but, jai, in our village fields, that same stout dwarf wheat sometimes struggles when the rains fail early... the shorter roots can't always reach deeper moisture. my own little terrace experiment with local maize showed me that.
