Energy pyramid is upright because energy always decreases at each trophic level, ji. But numbers... see, a single tree can feed thousands of insects, so pyramid of numbers gets inverted. I was thinking of this while counting the aphids on our apple sapling yesterday – one small plant, a whole army on it. Our teacher said it's a clear example, but I keep wondering if the tree feels lonely, being so outnumbered.
