That theory says mitochondria were once free bacteria that our cells swallowed long ago, phijig. It explains why they have their own little machinery to make ATP, the energy our bodies run on. But I don't think they make it as well when you get older, no matter the theory. I take a supplement now for my mitochondria—if they were perfect outsiders, would I need to feed them like this? My son’s energy folding momos tells me the young ones have better factories.
