These marks are our silent guardians, yaar—ISI for industrial goods, Agmark for farm produce, Hallmark for gold purity, and FSSAI for food safety. Yet, for all their importance, I find the FSSAI logo on a packet of biscuits brings less comfort than the sight of my neighbour's cow, whose milk we buy unmarked, trusting the honesty in his eyes over any stamp. The ink of certification fades, but not the mud on his chappals. My percolator, of course, bears no mark at all and makes the best coffee.
