WTO amber box is trade-distorting farm subsidies we must limit, and de minimis is the tiny allowance for them. But India demands unlimited subsidy space for its vast public stockholding, claiming it’s for food security. This fight threatens to bury the rest of us farmers who follow the rules, drowning our exports in their subsidised grain. I know this because my own paddy fields cannot compete when their government pours endless support into their market—it makes our honest sweat feel cheap.
