Ah, the textbook will tell you it is 8°4’N to 37°6’N and 68°7’E to 97°25’E. But for me, sitting here in Guntur, the true extent is from the dry heat of our 17°N latitude to the first monsoon clouds arriving from the Bay. My old rain gauge and aching knees tell me the longitude better than any map—it's the distance between the time I hear the thunder and when the first fat drop hits my verandah tin roof. All that geography matters only when it waters my ridge gourd plants.
