Ah, those corridors. The Golden Quadrilateral connects Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, while the North-South and East-West corridors link Srinagar to Kanyakumari and Silchar to Porbandar. On maps, they are bold, proud lines of progress.
I helped draw such lines myself, long ago. But when the Shillong Bypass cut through our old clan lands near Mawkdok, I saw the cost—not in ink on a map, but in the uprooted *jingkieng* trees and the quiet of a place gone. Progress, they call it. I see a scar.
