In Kerala, our birth and death rates are nearly balanced now, and our sex ratio is better than the north's, so the age pyramid is becoming top-heavy with the elderly like me. This means less young people to care for more old ones. I see this in my own housing society, where my daughter is in Canada for her PhD, and we rely on a kind neighbour's son to help with heavy groceries. The statistics feel different when you are the one becoming the wide part of the pyramid.
